The Festival of Nature is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year between the 9th and 18th of June. This science festival is the UK’s largest celebration of the natural world and it takes place annually. Here at Bath City Farm, we are hosting some fantastic and informative events in participation of the festival, giving the local community a chance to learn more about the wildlife around them.
On the 9th of June, from 9 PM until 10 PM, we are inviting those aged 6 and above to join us for a bat walk where we will learn more about these mysterious little creatures living here on the farm. Try your hand at a bat detector to track them across the farm and (hopefully) spot them flying by! Led by Lucy Bartlett, We’ll have a talk about bats and then tour the farm in search of them. This free event is suitable for ages 6 and above, all under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult. It is now available to book through our events page.
On the 10th of June, between 9 AM and 2.30 PM, we will be leading a mini beast hunting workshop, including bug hunting, butterfly netting, moth trapping and pond dipping. Visit the wilder side of the Farm and see some of the hundreds of species of plants and animals that call it their home. From 9 am Bath Natural History Society moth group will show you what moths they’ve caught overnight – the beauty and variety of the UK’s moth population are not often seen, so this is a great opportunity. Then from 10.30, we’ll be out and about in the field beyond the pigs with some mini-beast hunting, nature walks, butterfly walks and pond dipping. This free event is suitable for all ages, no need to book!
Have you always wanted to have a go at taking pictures of the natural world but don’t know where to start? On the 14th of June between 6 PM- 8 PM, we are being joined by wildlife photographer George Cook for an ‘introduction to wildlife photography’ event. This event is aimed at beginners, so please feel free to bring along any camera you have, be that an SLR, digital camera or the camera on your phone. Aimed at ages 16 and above, this event gives an amazing opportunity for the local community to learn how to capture amazing images of the abundant wildlife here in Bath.
We are so excited to celebrate The Festival of Nature here at the farm, we hope to see many of you there! For more information on all events, visit our events page at: https://www.bathcityfarm.org.uk/events-all/
